In cities, we find the homeless in plain sight — tents on public land, beggars by the metro, sometimes public demonstrations demanding services. But in the country, the poor are often hidden and too embarrassed to admit help is needed. And that’s the tragedy. When we don’t know people need aid, we do an even poorer job of helping.
