Earlier, the Court threw out its time-honored Rule of Law to scratch 50 years of protections that women have the right to choose their health care.
We saw the justices first refuse Jack Smith’s request for an early decision on Trump’s immunity and now delay any decision-making until summer, if at all.
For over 200 years, we have lived in a country where NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW. Richard Nixon proved this with his resignation. Trump is no more eligible for exemption than was Nixon.
What we must do:
- Keep loudly insisting that the federal trial take place — and do so urgently, before the election!
- Be clear: there is still time to have a trial, and Department of Justice policy does not prohibit the scheduling of one during an election. The Supreme Court must decide as quickly as humanly possible after oral argument, so that Trump can at last be judged by a jury of Americans.
David Doak, a former media consultant, former campaign manager, and, before that, a prosecutor and Public Defender, frames our challenges this way:
“One of the necessities of learning how to win is to clearly understand when you have lost. Yesterday, we — the forces of Democracy, lost big.
“Trump won on two levels:
- “He has successfully propagandized his coup attempt as normal and non-criminal; even the attempts to bring him and his co-conspirators to justice are a “witch hunt,” and the insurrectionists are patriots — ‘patriots!’” who climbed our Capitol’s walls, broke windows to get in, killed police, and built gallows for Nancy Pelosi and Mike Pence.
- “His corruption of the courts is enabling him to escape justice. We lost big time, with more potential losses to come unless there is a huge election win. Don’t listen to the apologists and happy talkers. We got our ass kicked, and it portends more ass-kicking to come, as this Supreme Court is there for years to come. We must demand more from our leaders, and sadly, they have left us once again so our only hope of saving the Republic is to do it ourselves.”
Doak calls for, “A reboot of our thinking; before, it was “Just win the next election, and R’s will return to normal,” but no, this is not the case. We must prepare for a long fight with new rules and urgency. This is an ongoing threat that may last for years and years. We are not prepared…”
We need more strategy. As a means of helping our readers become the most effective in our struggle, the following offers help in phrasing our language so that it is the most convincing.
- Stop using phrases like “SCOTUS decided” or “the Supreme Court ruled.”
These phrases offer cover-up to the Court’s corrupt individuals who were partly put there by Trump because billionaires wanted a Court to do their bidding. Using the phrases also tacitly condemns the three justices who take their oaths and roles seriously.
It is important to remember that Donald Trump does not stand alone in this fight. Many people are standing beside him, working diligently to protect him as they work to throw away our Constitution’s Rule of Law.
The following is a review of how we can defend ourselves and our country. Prepare yourself by reading this “Tool Kit:”
Every one of us must vote. We each must shoulder the responsibility to defend our country against a broken Supreme Court. We must link criminal conspiracy to GOP actions across issues, including economic ones.
Talk with friends and colleagues over and over again if necessary.
Write letters to the editor … for Facebook, X, Instagram, and other kinds of social media, too.
Show up at protests. Put up a sign — on your fridge, your door, in the window of your car. Find ways to protest. Big ways. Small ways.
Take your baby to protests. Take all the kids to protests. We are saving our country for them.
Our work will help our country understand what is at risk. Study the “Tool Kit” and begin your personal campaign today. Time is short; we must act now.
