Abbott has chosen to defend razor wire in his fight against people escaping desperate situations, even though the Supreme Court’s decision stands with the Federal Government, which is working to take the wire out of the Rio Grande River. Abbott’s choice and his rhetoric use the same defense that the Confederacy did when southern states fought to defend slavery. To defy federal law is to commit insurrection.
Does insurrection matter? Dwight D. Eisenhower thought it did, and John F. Kennedy thought it did. Both proved that federal law prevails. President Biden may need to take the same route.
Razor wire? Barbed wire? Concertina Wire? It doesn’t matter which. It’s all despicable when used against people, children, and babies. And the Supreme Court has said, “No!” … clearing President Biden’s position that Governor Abbott and his minions must remove the wire.
