20 Million people is 4 Million more than last year, a 20% increase in participation. “Obamacare” is popular … very popular. Does anyone remember how many times Republicans tried to repeal “Obamacare”, i.e., the Affordable Care Act (ACA)?
A quick bit of research on the Internet reminds us:
- “The Tuesday, February 2, 2016 vote, with a tally of 241 supporting ACA –186 opposing, was the 63rd attempt by the House. After the July 27, 2017 vote on the Health Care Freedom Act, Newsweek ‘found at least 70 Republican-led attempts to repeal, modify or otherwise curb the Affordable Care Act since its inception as law on March 23, 2010.'”
- According to the National Academy of Medicine and others, the United States is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not provide universal health care. See Western countries that offer universal health care here.
- Now, Republicans have switched their attention to cutting back Medicare and Medicaid services. We’ll have more on that in future posts.
