Chaos Central — Is this Republican governance?

By October 13, 2023No Comments

6 out of 10 House Republicans voted against Trump’s ally and endorsed choice for Speaker — Jim Jordan, but “winner” Scalise has dropped out of the race because he can’t find the path to get to 217. Now what? Expect:

       Squabbles. Disarray. Mayhem.
       Anything but governance.
No votes for Ukraine and Israel's security.
No votes for Farm Bill. Likely shutdown. Irresponsibility.
       Chaos.
The U.S. looks like it lost its mind.

But what should the Democrats do … How about this? Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries could issue a polite, sensible invitation to join Democrats “TO SERVE AMERICA.” Jefferies could offer a “FIVE POINT PLAN.”

  1. Work together to serve All Americans and All of America.
  2. Pass Appropriations Bills one at a time.
  3. Move emergency assistance for Israel and Ukraine together.
  4. Extend the Farm Bill … write the Bill … other bills, too; pass bills.
  5. Prove that coalitions — Democrats and Republicans, together can govern.

This is called responsible governance. Will five Republicans have the nerve — the guts? To Join Democrats to make Jeffries Speaker and top the insanity going on now.

I’m withholding my bet. Will you?

All it would take is five Republicans to join Democrats to elect Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker.
