Rural Colleges Saved by USDA’s Lender of Last Resort Duties

“A U.S. Department of Agriculture program has provided $1.7 billion in grants and low-cost loans to struggling rural colleges and universities in the last three years. This raises questions about who closes and who gets to stay open.”
Iowa Wesleyan University is one of those schools.  Its president says the USDA grant and the announcement of Iowa Wesleyan’s possible closing generated the resources necessary for the university to stay open.
