Once again, McCarthy’s best-laid plans are falling apart. Eight corn belt Republicans have said NO! No, they won’t vote for the debt ceiling bill if the tax credits for ethanol are dumped. It takes five Republicans to stop a party-line vote but these eight do not appear to be the usual five.
That “usual five” are people like Marjorie Taylor Green (GA), Lauren Boebert (CO), Matt Gaetz (FL), Jim Jordan (OH), Byron Donalds (FL), and Chip Roy (TX). Other candidates for this group are Patrick McHenry (NC) and Steve Scalise (LA). It doesn’t take much to find five of these folks who often agree on most things identified as extreme right even though they come from different coalitions.
