The House Majority made a lot of BIG … EXTREMELY BIG! … promises. Our favorite was the one that promised to make the Trump Tax cuts permanent. Those tax cuts are a big … BIG!!! … reason the national debt has skyrocketed. The promise was to make BIG … EXTREMELY BIG … cuts while balancing the nation’s budget. In mid-February, they promised to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Defense … nothing else.
Well, that’s changed. These promises are out the window. Biofuels seem safe, but Medicare work rules are up for grabs, as is SNAP. The “new” Republican idea about how to solve the need to assist low-income families needing food assistance is to make them work more. If they work more, they’ll have money to buy their food. And raising the Social Security age is again up for grabs with some Republicans, too.
