States Rush to Stop China from Buying Farmland

Once again, USDA’s Farm Service Agency can’t get its data straight.  In this case, the Agency has failed to learn the ownership of 3.1 million acres in its database.  At least eight states are working to stop China from buying farmland, but FSA’s records fail to accurately tell who owns all the farmland in the U.S.

Fourteen other countries appear to own more land in the U.S. than China.

Anti-China sentiment also brings a fresh look at Smithfield Foods — initially founded in Smithfield, VA, and later purchased by WH Group, headquartered in Hong Kong (now part of China) and publicly traded worldwide, with transactions going through the Cayman Islands.
