Federal bank regulators announced late Sunday that depositors at the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) will have access to all their money Monday morning, but the failure of the bank still raises the possibility that a significant number of food and ag-tech startups could be affected by the situation.

About the Author:

Mr. Hagstrom appears frequently on C-SPAN to discuss farm issues, and has appeared on National Public Radio and the British Broadcasting Corporation program Farming Today. He has also lectured before major trade groups and at universities including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, the Institute d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (often referred to as Sciences Po), and the Ecole Nationale d’Administration, the prestigious training school for French civil servants.

A native of North Dakota, Mr. Hagstrom grew up on the Hagstrom family farm and in Wilton and Bismarck, N.D. Both his maternal grandparents, of Norwegian descent, and his paternal grandparents, of Swedish descent, homesteaded in Burleigh County, North Dakota. A graduate of the University of Denver, he has been a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University and a research fellow at the Freedom Forum Media Studies Center at Columbia University.

Mr. Hagstrom also writes about politics. He is the co-author with Neal R. Peirce of The Book of America: Inside Fifty States Today, a book on the politics and character of each of the 50 states, and the author of Beyond Reagan: The New Landscape of American Politics. From 1976 until 1988 Mr. Hagstrom was also Mr. Peirce’s associate on his newspaper column, which is syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group.
