JoJo Stewart is an accidental progressive rural activist and blogger who lives deep in the heart of the Ozarks. As the Supreme Court trashed a 50-year body of law in order to withdraw women’s right to an abortion, she found herself having to fight not only for the future of her daughters but for the sake of her neighbors as well. While living in one of the reddest parts of Missouri, she began by organizing a pro-choice rally after Missouri’s “Trigger law” ban on abortion took effect. Then, she moved forward to become heavily involved with select political campaigns at both state and national levels. This led Stewart to organize and connect across the entire state with folks with the same commitments. Their grassroots movement is called “Dirt Road Democrats.” It also led Stewart to start a blog as she worked to fight the monster of a propaganda machine that runs rampant through rural Missouri’s “news desert” where people need more information on what their state legislators are up to. When not busy with politics and organizing, her hobbies include crafting, writing, reading, and being a huge outdoors enthusiast.
