Senator Jon Tester (D-Montana) is the original sponsor of the “Right to Repair” bill that would stop manufacturers from prohibiting farmers from repairing their tractors and other equipment. The National Farmers Union and the National Grange are two of the groups giving strong support to the bill.
Now, a hacker has found the path around “digital locks” that companies like John Deere put on to keep farmers from breaking into the information technology that is built into tractors and other equipment.
The hacker known as Sick Codes presented a new jailbreak for John Deere & Co. at the DefCon security conference last Saturday in Las Vegas. The jailbreak allows control of multiple models through the equipment’s touch screens. Read more here from WIRED.
