Fetterman Demands Dr. Oz Explain his Tax Break Meant for Rural Pennsylvanians

By August 11, 2022No Comments

The 2022 Pennsylvania Senate race to replace retiring Republican Pat Toomey pits current Democratic Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman against Republican celebrity doctor and businessman Mehmet Oz.

Fetterman has waged a meme-filled campaign against Dr. Oz, criticizing Oz’s promotion of questionable cure-all drugs,  his connections with Donald Trump, his multi-millionaire status, and whether Oz even lives in Pennsylvania in the first place. Meanwhile, the main critiques of Fetterman are his so-called socialist agenda, his ties to Bernie Sanders, and, after a recent stroke, his health.

On Tuesday, Fetterman slammed Dr. Oz for the tax treatment of his property in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Using a tax loophole meant for farmers and rural families, Oz has classified the property as a “forest reserve.” This provides Oz with a favorable tax assessment of the property, decreasing his yearly taxes owed from $72,000 to $21,473. While the tax strategy is legal, Fetterman argued that the move is indicative of how Oz treats Pennsylvania as a whole:

“Dr. Oz does not want to live in Pennsylvania, and he doesn’t want to pay taxes here; he just wants our Senate seat.”
