PREVIEW: From The Hagstrom Report:
“The Defending Against Imitations and Replacements of Yogurt, Milk, and Cheese To Promote Regular Intake of Dairy Everyday Act (the DAIRY PRIDE Act), which was reintroduced in the Senate last week, was reintroduced in the House this week by Reps. John Joyce, R-Pa.; Ann Kuster, D-N.H.; Mike Simpson, R-Idaho; Joe Courtney, D-Conn.; Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis. ; and Angie Craig, D-Minn.
“The bill would require the Food and Drug Administration to enforce its standards of identity and would supersede the guidance FDA promulgated last week that plant-based beverages could call themselves “milk” as long as they clearly state their nutritional differences with animal milk.”
On behalf of the National Milk Producers Federation, NMPF President and CEO Jim Mulhern has offered strong support for the reintroduction of the bill.
