Let’s confess, just to ourselves first. Truth matters, margins matter, and votes matter. When we connect the three, we get things done. Sometimes erasing the partisanship helps us get more done, e.g., see the Kansas vote on protecting abortion: 59% of Kansans voted together to defeat their state legislature’s anti-abortion amendment.
Americans all across the United States agree about many issues, maybe even 150 or more. Some of my personal favorites, in no particular order, are abortion (61%); gay marriage (70%); taxes – the top 2% need to pay more (71%); and gun safety – background checks (89%). Author Steve Corbin, Nebraska Examiner, compiled a lot longer list. See them at: “Will of the People” vs Congressional Actions”
As you find issues you agree with, ask yourself, “Are you willing to connect the dots about policies to the voting records of elected officials who vote NO! or promise to vote YES! but do not? Do you want to hold them responsible for their votes?”
