Last week when the bill to cap insulin prices at $35 failed, Democrat Sen. Patty Murray from Washington state, called the vote “shameful”, adding that these 43 Senate Republicans’ “no” votes would force “countless patients to continue rationing their insulin – putting their lives at risk.”
All Senate Democrats voted for the price cap, and seven Republicans voted with them. The Republican Senators were Bill Cassidy — Louisiana, Susan Collins — Missouri, Josh Hawley — Missouri, Cindy Hyde-Smith — Mississippi, John Kennedy — Louisiana, Lisa Murkowsky — Alaska, and Dan Sullivan — Alaska.
Senator Grassley who wrote the original language that stopped Medicare/Medicaid from negotiating drug prices has sometimes talked the “talk” about the need to lower drug prices but once again voted, “No!”
My Rural America will publish later in the week a chart detailing what the vote means for people with diabetes in each state. To see the names of the Republicans who voted no, once again preferring their constituents pay higher than necessary prices for their drugs, read this Newsweek news story.
