Georgia Kids Go Hungry — Funding Goes to Waste

By August 14, 2024No Comments

USDA has the solution, but governors have to sign their states up. Apparently, Georgia’s Governor Brian Kemp doesn’t understand that he has hungry kids all over his state.

About 17% of U.S. households with children were food “insecure” in 2022. What this really means is those U.S. kids were going hungry. USDA keeps track of the numbers and has a summer feeding program. This summer of 2024 is no different than in 2022. Unemployment numbers have dropped even more, but this program is designed to help the working poor.

USDA’s program is called SUN Bucks, uses an EBT system, and is designed to continue benefits during the summer break for hungry kids and their families.   When school goes out, SUN Bucks provides families with school-age children $120 to buy more groceries.
