34 Felony Counts of Guilt — Sentencing on July 11th.

By May 31, 2024No Comments

Donald Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts in his “financial malfeasance” (hush money) trial.  It was the first time an American president has become a convicted felon.  Yet to come is the sentencing.  Judge Juan Merchan has set the data for July 11th.  Each of those 34 counts is worth up to four years in prison, but the judge is not required to use maximum sentencing.

See below for several “first to press” stories about the convictions.

Jonathan Alter, The New York Times Opinion Today.  “What I saw might not have been a total surprise, but the timing sure was.”

Jess Bidgood, The New York TimesThe Dark Rhetoric After Trump’s Conviction.  “...Donald Trump wore a glum look on his face as a jury pronounced him guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records … then he marched up to the cameras in the hallway to claim, falsely, that it was all a setup.”

Hans Nichols, AXIOS Sneak Peek:  “A scowling Donald Trump, now a convicted felon, told reporters today that the “real verdict” for him “is going to be Nov. 5, by the people.”
