The House Republican Majority Farm Bill plan cuts $30 Billion over ten years, but they deny that this “30 Billion savings” is a cut. The plan saves these billions by restricting the Secretary of Agriculture from paying more for SNAP foods over the next ten years.
For example, if a gallon of milk costs $4 in 2025 and rises to $6 in 2030, the USDA could only buy one half-gallon instead of a gallon. Chairman Thompson is “shocked” that anyone would call this a cut.
Of course, a half gallon of milk would force the program to feed fewer kids and their families. Equally important, American dairy farmers and other food producers would also suffer the attack.
