600,000 low-income North Carolinians became eligible for Medicaid health insurance on December 1 because the NC Governor and state legislature authorized NC participation.
“North Carolina is the 40th state to expand Medicaid and allow people with incomes up to 138% of the federal poverty level to enroll in the government health insurance plan. That’s equivalent to an annual income of $41,400 for a family of four, or $20,120 for an individual.”
Ten states are still refusing to vote for expansion. As they refuse, what these state legislators and their governors do is condemn their citizens to pay higher prices for health care, e.g., pregnancy care, diabetes, and blood pressure meds, and overall, they risk their citizens being forced into bankruptcy because of medical causes. Medicaid Advantage was passed by the Congress and signed into law by President Obama.
