Although there are plenty of excuses floating around that share the goal of stopping solar from making its way into agricultural growing standards, research is finding that certain crops actually produce higher yields. Oregon State University’s Solar Harvest agrivoltaics (AV) center research shows most plants don’t need all the sunshine that’s available to them to grow well, e.g., peppers and tomatoes do really well, as do potatoes and beans. The higher soil moisture and coolers temperatures under solar panels are also proving to be helpful in reducing the need for irrigation.
