MY RURAL AMERICA joins NFU in asking, “Did you know that beef can be imported to the U.S. and still be labeled as a product of the USA?”
“USDA’s proposed rule on “Product of USA” labeling seeks to address this problem by allowing voluntary “Product of USA” or “Made in the USA” labeling only for products derived from animals born, raised, slaughtered, and processed in the United States. While this label is no substitute for mandatory Country-of-Origin labeling, it is still a forward step toward improving the current voluntary standards. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced this new rule during the NFU convention in March 2023.
“USDA wants to hear about these improved voluntary labels from farmers and consumers. You can submit a comment using our new #FairnessforFarmers advocacy tool!”
MY RURAL AMERICA joins NFU in its request for comments. “Voluntary” reporting doesn’t work. Only the good guys report, so USDA’s stalling on the need for MANDATORY COUNTRY-OF-ORIGIN labeling is unacceptable. We urge readers to sign the petition.
