About 44% of the U.S. military’s recruits come from rural America, and many of them return home to their rural areas after service. USDA wants to hire America’s heroes. As rural vets come home, we suggest they look at USDA for job possibilities, e.g., jobs related to the following can be a good fit:
- Criminal Justice
- Soil Conservation
- Contracting and Procurement
- Information Technology
- Food Inspection and Public Health
- Fire Fighting
- Finance
- Economics
It’s also good to know the federal government’s watchdog — aka the Government Accountability Office (GAO), has made four recommendations, including that:
- VHA must analyze intensive mental health care utilization and performance data by rurality, assess, and update, as appropriate, guidelines for establishing outpatient intensive mental health programs. The Department of Veterans Affairs concurred with the recommendations and identified steps it would take to implement them. Read more here.
