First, we see the Members of Congress — both parties, including the House and the Senate — stand up for agreement with the President, all together in support of protecting Social Security and Medicare during the State of the Union. Now, we start seeing people drag their feet. Some Members seem only willing to pass the debt limit if they get a commission to study and change Social Security and Medicare. The commission could be the tool that makes good on FL Senator Rick Scott’s (R) (and the Senators benefited from his fundraising) promise to eliminate both programs.
