The first step is to learn about Rural America’s diversity; we need to understand that agricultural policy is not rural policy. Farming accounts for just 7% of rural employment. One helpful step is how President Biden has started the Rural Partners Network to assist rural communities in identifying and securing federal resources. Still, the Network is only available in ten states and Puerto Rico.
Tony Pipa, a senior fellow at the Center for Sustainable Development at the Brookings Institution, analyzes the situation; The New York Times reports: A Policy Renaissance is needed for Rural America to Thrive.
