The expectations: House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) is running to replace Pelosi. Assuming Democrats become the new Minority, this means Jeffries would be Minority Leader. He does not have an opponent.
- Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) — the new minority whip
- Caucus Vice Chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) — caucus chair,
- Clyburn stays on as assistant leader, the No. 4 position
- Speaker Pelosi and Hoyer return to becoming rank-and-file members
It’s smooth as glass so far for Dems.
(But oh oh, not so smooth for Repubs. McCarthy is still short five votes from being elected Speaker.)
