Both Republican Joe Kent and Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez reached out to the rural counties in the 3rd. See the early rural voter perspective here. The victory of Gluesenkamp Perez over Trump-endorsed Republican Kent in Washington state’s 3rd Congressional District was a surprise upset for Democrats.
Gluesenkamp Perez’s lead over opponent Joe Kent, an Army Special Forces veteran, is at more than 4,600 votes, and three major news sites have called the race. The district is a “swing district” previously represented by U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, who voted to impeach Trump. Herrera Beutler narrowly lost in the Republican primary to Joe Kent, a hard-right Republican who lost the election to Gluesenkamp Perez.
