Tragic. 61% of Americans believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases (Pew Research, 6/13), but the Supreme Court’s Dobbs Ruling has resulted in nearly 21 million women and girls — ages 15 to 44, having lost access to deciding their own health care. 14 states have outlawed most or all abortions.
States with the most extreme bans are Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, and Oklahoma, Then we have the so-called heart-beat laws in Georgia, Idaho, Ohio, and Tennessee. There are also states whose laws are in the Courts, e.g., North Dakota, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and West Virginia.
While elected officials are busy writing legislation and voting no on abortion rights, they also have crossed the line of public opinion. An important question that the 61% of Americans who oppose these actions must address is: Will the 61% remember when they go to the polls?
One out of three women and girls have lost their right to decide their own health care. Sarah McCammon reports for NPR: Two months after the Dobbs Ruling, new abortion bans are taking hold.
